Galway United’s thirst for national football honours was finally satisfied in Lansdowne Road in 1991 with a 1-0 win over Shamrock Rovers in the FAI Cup. It was a success that gave reality to dreams cherished for so long by so many who had fostered local football for decades. Linley MacKenzie spent the weekend with the United squad, watching their dreams become reality.

The GAA is expecting no games will take place before July this year, but will hold a special congress to look at changing competition structures.
In line with the Government's announcement to extend the current restrictions until May 5, the GAA says all action remains suspended and the senior inter-county championships, due to start in May, will be postponed. However, the GAA says it is "highly unlikely" these will be rescheduled any time before the beginning of July "at the earliest".

Time flies. It is 11 years since Galway opted to play in the Leinster Championship, initially on a trial basis of three years. A big leap for Galway hurling at the time, which had been resisted by many, it is now an accepted system for Galway. It has not been all plain sailing, such as the lack of home games, request for equal financial status and representation on the Leinster Council, but on the field Galway has contested seven finals and won the title final three times. The 2018 Leinster round-robin game between Galway and Kilkenny at Pearse Stadium in Salthill was Galway’s first home Leinster Championship match. It was the first provincial championship game, excluding the Connacht championship, to take place in County Galway since 1965.
