In an Advertiser article in the July 26 issue entitled ‘Circle of Life donor commemoration park reaches public consultation stage’ it was stated that stones from historic sites in each county would be taken for use in the commemorative garden. However, it has since emerged that the information received was incorrect in relation to the stones.

Historic sites are protected by law and cannot be disturbed so the stones that are to be used in the garden will be will be specifically selected by the Office of Public Works from the environs of these sites. They will then be made available to Strange Boat Donor Foundation for inclusion in the commemorative garden.

Galway Bay swim to take place on Saturday

The seventh annual Galway Bay swim, in aid of Cancer Care West, will take place on Saturday July 28.

Approximately 40 swimmers will take part in the 13km swim from Aughinish, Co Clare, to Blackrock Tower in Salthill, Galway, in the hope of raising €50,000 for the charity. The majority of these swimmers are triathletes and open water swimmers from across Ireland. Clare man Chris Bryan, Irish international open water swimmer, who recently narrowly missed qualifying for this year’s Olympics will be taking part and will be aiming to break the record of two hours 31 minutes.
