2018 has been another busy year for Gaillimh le Gaeilge as Galway businesses continue to invest in the Irish language. The organisation responsible for the promotion of the Irish language in Galway has seen an increase of 26 per cent in the demand for their services so far this year, which in turn, has led to an increase in the visibility of the language in the city.

COPE Galway’s biggest – and longest – fundraising event of the year will see 32 people from Galway’s business community sleeping rough over 12 hours tomorrow night (Friday, December 7) to raise awareness about homelessness in Galway and help raise funds for COPE Galway’s Homeless Services.
COPE Galway’s most recent quarterly one day census (conducted on Nov 21/22) identified a total of 195 adults and 221 children as living in emergency accommodation provided directly by COPE Galway and in private emergency accommodation such as hotels and B&Bs.

A new group entitled City Regions Ireland was launched yesterday with the aim of bringing together the Chambers of Commerce of Galway, Cork, Dublin, Limerick and Waterford — Ireland’s five cities as identified by the National Planning Framework, Ireland 2040.
The grouping was formalised and met with the Minister for Housing, Planning and Urban Development Eoghan Murphy TD last evening to outline what is needed to safeguard an ambitious urban future for Ireland’s city regions.
