I won’t be using election posters for May poll, says Cubbard

A lot of debate took place recently regarding the use of election posters and the possibility of banning them ahead of the upcoming Local and European elections in May. During this debate I proposed an amendment that would see Galway City follow towns and cities in countries such as the Netherlands, Belgium and France where designated locations are more common rather than a plethora of posters taking up every lamp post and street corner in the city.

NUI Galway to stage explosive political farce dealing with police corruption

NUI Galway’s O’Donoghue Centre for Drama, Theatre and Performance will from tonight (Thursday) stage Nobel Prize winning Italian playwright Dario Fo’s Accidental Death of the Anarchist in a translation by Simon Nye. Survivors of domestic abuse hailed for their ‘incredible’ strength

The “incredible” strength and resilience of women who survive abusive relationships was singled out for special praise this week by COPE Galway in the run up to International Women’s Day which takes place tomorrow (Friday).

Dr Carol Baumann, the manager of COPE Galway’s domestic abuse service, said these “extremely resourceful” women have “amazing” survival skills.

Pearce Flannery calls on candidates to support voluntary poster ban

Former Mayor of Galway, Cllr Pearce Flannery has issued a strong call of all local election candidates to enter into a voluntary code of conduct that ensures that all candidates desist from using election posters in the forthcoming local elections.

Cllr Flannery was successful at the City Council meeting of 12 November 2018 in getting a motion passed by the majority of councillors banning the use of election posters.
