Celebrate Heritage week at Coole Park

A guided walk introducing participants to the delights of Coole Park is among the events taking place at Coole during Heritage Week. The walk, which takes place from 11am to 12.30pm today, will take in the history of the park, its wildlife, landscape, and the walled garden.

A bat walk and talk will take place in Coole tomorrow (Friday) from 8.30pm to 10.30pm. Learn all about the mysterious life of bats on this night time walk around Coole Park with a National Parks and a Wildlife Service ranger. Wear warm clothes, strong footwear, and bring a torch. This walk is weather dependent and will not take place if it is too wet.

Theft of Outboard Engines

Gardai in Clifden are investigating the theft of a number of outboard boat engines from the Clonbur and Corn na Mona areas between June 27 and July 1. A 5 horsepower two stroke Yamaha engine was taken from the Ferrybridge area near Clonbur between the June 26 and July 1. A 6 horsepower Yamaha stroke engine and a 9.9 horsepower two stroke engine was taken from the Dooras area between 30 June and July 1. If anyone has any information contact Garda Rebecca Nalty at Clifden Garda Station at (095) 22500. Members of the public are asked to report any suspicious activity and boat owners are asked to be vigilant.

'Absolutely disgusting' — Mayor criticises culprits who carried out cemetery vandalism

Vandalism carried out at Mount St Joseph Cemetery in Rahoon has been described as "absolutely disgusting" by Mayor of the Galway City Council, Mike Cubbard.

Cllr Cubbard's criticism comes after a number of ornaments on graves in Section X of the cemetery had been damaged between the hours of 4.30pm on last Thursday and 8.30am on Friday.
