At the event, 18 women and one brave man who each raised €1,000 for Cope received a full hair, beauty, and fashion makeover from some of Ireland’s top stylists. Pirscilla’s personal style coach was Tess Purcell of Style ‘N Mind, hair was by Laura Devlin of Fringe Benefits, make-up by Marian Naughtan also of Fringe Benefits, and outfit supplied by Marian’s.

Lead problem has spread to Taylor’s Hill, claims Mayor

The drinking water supply of a house in Taylor’s Hill has been discovered to have excess levels of lead and last evening the Mayor of Galway Padraig Conneely expressed fears that the lead contamination problem may now be more widespread than was feared.

However City Hall said the public should not be alarmed by an individual case, and that only when its widespread water tests are completed will an accurate picture emerge of the true extent of the problem.

Major problems with migrant registration, Galway gardai tell court

Gardai in Galway have warned that there is a “major problem” with certain sectors of the migrant community, including students coming here to learn English, not furnishing immigration officers with up to date information such as change of address.

At the Galway District Court yesterday, (Wednesday) Judge Mary Fahy noted that gardai may have to meet with the owners and directors of colleges for them to advise their foreign students on their responsibilities to furnish details as required by law.

Connolly condemns O’Ceidigh’s ‘sinister’ remarks on water crisis

“Biased, unhelpful”, “positively dangerous”, and “sinister” is how Independent Cllr Catherine Connolly has described recent remarks by Padraig O’Ceidigh, blaming city councillors for the lead water crisis.

Cllr Connolly has reacted strongly to Mr O’Ceidigh’s comments, made on a national radio programme, saying such an allegation is “deliberately deflecting attention from the failure of city management” to “not only deal with the lead crisis but also to withhold information from the public and elected members”.
