Council to begin Housing Needs Assessment

The Galway City Council’s Housing Department has begun its Housing Needs Assessment with a view to competing its work by April.

People in need of accommodation; whose current accommodation is inadequate; who are unable to provide adequate accommodation from their own resources; and those who have not already applied to the City Council for housing are asked to contact City Hall as soon as possible.

BORN Kitchen hosted a charity coffee morning in aid of Console on Valentine’s Day. Console is a national organisation supporting people in suicidal crisis and those bereaved by suicide. Tea, coffee, and freshly baked treats were enjoyed by all who supported to raise money for this very worthy cause. Great prizes including BORN clothing vouchers and BORN kitchen vouchers were awarded in the raffle that took place on the day. Deirdre D’Arcy, manager of BORN kitchen, said: “This is a charity that is very close to many of our hearts and we were delighted to host the coffee morning for such a wonderful cause.”

Concerns that some Cash for Gold stores are being used for the laundering of stolen goods has led to Fianna Fáil city councillor Ollie Crowe demanding regulation of such businesses.

Cllr Crowe was adamant the stores are running “perfectly legitimate operations”, but that the regulation is required to ensure “they are not being utilised by criminals to launder stolen goods”.
