NUI Galway’s Máistir Gairmiúil san Oideachas (MGO) programme has been awarded the Apple Distinguished Programme 2016-18’. The award identifies centres of excellence in the use of technology in education.

Cappagh Park likely to be expanded to create a sporting campus

Sports clubs in the west of the city could eventually be in line for new grounds and facilities after City Hall agreed to a call from Knocknacarra councillor Donal Lyons to extend the area of Cappagh Park.

At Monday’s city council meeting, Cllr Lyons called for the park’s extension, “in view of the number of sporting clubs now requiring facilities”. He made his call via a Notice of Motion, under Standing Order 22 dealing with urgent business, arguing for the purchasing of additional zoned amenity land, which lies adjacent to the park itself.

Ó Clochartaigh demands task force be established for Ballybane

If Ballybane and its population is to “thrive and flourish in future”, a task force to “reinstate vital community supports that have either been taken away or were never put in place” is essential.

This is the view of Sinn Féin senator Trevor Ó Clochartaigh, who has called for such a task force, after speaking with community representatives this week to arrange a meeting to progress the project. “‘The local community has been calling for a long time for a task force with a funded person to co-ordinate the work,” he said.
