New approaches in delivering care to young adults with type 1 diabetes are needed, according to researchers in Galway. A multi-disciplinary research team from NUI Galway and Galway University Hospitals have carried out a systematic review of international literature which has been published in the journal Diabetic Medicine.
The research, funded by the Health Research Board, highlighted a lack of high-quality, well-designed interventions, aimed at improving health outcomes for people aged 15-30 living with diabetes. This age group often experience poor outcomes because of issues with self-management skills, psychosocial distress, clinic attendance, adherence with treatment recommendations and high-risk behaviours.

Joe Steve is also well known for his portrayal of Peadar Ó Conghaile in the long-running soap Ros na Rún kicked off an evening of festivities with music by The Conquerors and carol singers from Scoil Cathríona Renmore.

Galway West Social Democrats have called on the Minister for Housing Simon Coveney to include the Galway rental sector in his plans for rental reform.
Following the launch of the Government’s new rental strategy by Minister Coveney, Galway West Social Democrats pointed out that the proposed measures which allow for a four per cent per annum increase in so-called rent ‘pressure zones’ equates to approximately 40 times the current Consumer Price Index.

Fianna Fáil TD for Roscommon/Galway Eugene Murphy has hit out at the ongoing overcrowding issues at Portiuncula A&E department which left a number of sick children having to be transported by ambulance to the Midlands Regional Hospital in Mullingar for treatment over the weekend.
Deputy Murphy pointed out that there had been an increase in viral respiratory problems particularly in young children and this obviously had a knock on effect on hospitals throughout the country including Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinasloe.
