The Manchester bombing has been condemned as “a vile atrocity” by the Galway Alliance Against War, but it added that the terrorist incident will generate more coverage than similar attacks in the Middle East, by virtue of it happening in the West.
In a statement, the Galway peace group said: “Such atrocities are a daily occurrence in the Middle East, Central Asia, and Africa: from Afghanistan to Yemen, from Libya to South Sudan to Somalia. These atrocities are courtesy of imperialism and its proxies in the region. These facts receive minimum, if any, coverage.”

Sonoran Desert Chorale, the top professional choir of the American South West will perform in Galway Cathedral on Wednesday June 7.
The concert, which is free of charge, is part of the choir’s three city tour of Ireland which will see them also perform in Kilkenny (June 10) and Christchurch Cathedral Dublin (June 12).

A total of five staff nurses and five staff midwives have commenced work at University Hospital Galway (UHG) to fill existing vacancies since April 1 2017, it was revealed at Tuesday’s regional health forum at Merlin Park University Hospital.
A further seven have confirmed start dates during the year, with 25 candidates currently in the process of being recruited.
