Boost for Galway Hospice through Dormant Accounts Funding

Minister for Community Development, Natural Resources and Digital Development and Fine Gael TD for Galway and Mayo South, Seán Kyne last evening (Wednesday) confirmed an allocation of almost €100,000 for Galway Hospice from the Dormant Accounts Fund.

The funding is being provided by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection which will be reimbursed from the Dormant Accounts Fund.

TD says health care system unfit for purpose

Fianna Fáil TD for Roscommon/Galway Eugene Murphy said an over reliance on acute hospital settings is resulting in unnecessary long waiting periods for many elderly people in A&E departments throughout the country and is evidence of a health system unfit for purpose.

Deputy Murphy highlighted the case of a 90-year-old woman who was left waiting on a trolley at Portiuncula Hospital in Ballinalsoe for seven hours following an x-ray for a minor fracture.

Funding announced for Galway community and voluntary groups

A total of €115,053 in funding ha been allocated to some 130 Galway community and voluntary groups under the Department of Rural and Community Development’s Community Facilities Scheme.

Under the scheme €64,500 has been allocated to community groups in the county on a municipal district basis, while in excess of €50,000 has been allocated to groups and organisations in the city.
