Headford and District Association to host weekend of Christmas festivities for community

Wed, Nov 26, 2025

Headford and District Association has announced a festive weekend of community events taking place on December5 and December 7. These activities mark the start of the Christmas season in Headford and are made possible through ongoing support from Galway County Council and the many local businesses who help light up the town each year. HADA is run entirely by volunteers in the community for the benefit of the community and surrounding areas, and their work continues thanks to this vital support.

On Thursday 5 December, the Christmas lights will be switched on at 6.30 pm in St George’s Square. The ceremony will be led by Aadya Srivastava, who proudly represented Ireland at Miss Universe this year. The evening will include music, festive cheer and a gathering for all ages as the community comes together to welcome the start of the holiday season.

Thu, Nov 20, 2025

Child safeguarding, communication breakdowns, and the future of the Corralea Court building took centre stage at the November Plenary Meeting of the Tuam Municipal District on Tuesday, November 11. Councillors voiced growing frustration at what they described as insufficient clarity from Government departments regarding the operation of the IPAS accommodation centre in the former hotel.

Cllr Shaun Cunniffe said councillors had been “very adamant” in seeking detailed information from the Department on child safeguarding arrangements, adding that assurances given earlier in the year had not been followed through. “We wanted to know exactly what the child safeguarding arrangements were. We were promised detail on that, and it still hasn’t come,” he said. “We did our duty. We weren’t sure what was happening. There are kids involved, but the information didn’t come back. It’s poor.”
