The Granary Learning Centre is offering a convenient way to complete a beginner course in Spanish, German, or Italian over six weekend days in May and June. By the end of the course the student will achieve A1 level in language competence according to the European ranking scheme. Class times are scheduled to allow attendees to travel to Galway in the morning and be home again by the evening. Each course is taught by two qualified teachers who are both native speakers with many years of experience.

Last October father-of-one Keith Connolly was involved in a road traffic accident. Sadly, the injuries Ballinderreen native Mr Connolly received resulted in the amputation of his legs. He has since begun his treatment in the National Rehabilitation Centre in Dún Laoighaire, Co Dublin, and he is making excellent progress.

The Union of Students in Ireland has expressed disappointment at the outcome of a High Court challenge taken by three students, two of whom attend Galway colleges, against the Minister for Education Ruairi Quinn.
The three students had sought a judicial review of cuts made to the Higher Education Maintenance Grant scheme in the Budget last December. The hearing took place between February 23 and 24 last but judgment had been reserved until April 25.
