Canney commends anglers who are respecting Covid-19 measures

Sean Canney, Minister with responsibility for the Inland Fisheries Sector, has commended the action of the vast majority of anglers during the Covid-19 measures and urged all to continue to respect the current measures and #stayathome.

Minister Canney said; “Angling is an activity that brings physical and mental benefits and can be practiced safely in these unprecedented times. I commend the vast majority of our anglers who have lead by example but I urge those all who wish to engage in angling to do so following the advice set out by the health authorities and reflected in guidelines set out by Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI) on March 28.

Seasonal staff are being abandoned by the hierarchy within Bord na Mona, according to independent TD Michael Fitzmaurice.

Following a board meeting this week, BNM has confirmed that up to 230 employees in the Energy Business Unit will be temporarily released – with only permanent staff able to receive 100% of their basic salary on a 39-hour week through the Covid-19 Temporary Wage Subsidy scheme.

The adult cystic fibrosis team at University Hospital Galway is using online video conferencing to replace face-to-face outpatient appointments during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Dr Michael O’Mahony, the adult cystic fibrosis physician, said the hospital obtained Sláintecare integration funding at the start of the year for a telemedicine project. This involved delivering a physiotherapy service via online video link to patients to increase the hospital’s level of physiotherapy input into their care between their scheduled outpatient appointments.

The international survey assesses people’s awareness, attitudes, beliefs, and behaviours in response to the various measures put in place to prevent and reduce the spread of COVID-19 across the world.
