A 35-year-old man who committed burglaries at a number of B&Bs, by gaining access to rooms with filed down keys, was jailed for 12 months this week and could face deportation following his release.
Allan Dambuka with an address at 203A Collins Avenue, Whitehall, Dublin 9, appeared before Galway District Court on Monday where he pleaded guilty to the offences brought against him.

Demand for childcare training has reached an all time high since the introduction of the Government’s new free pre-school scheme. The Early Childhood Care and Education Scheme requires that staff in childcare services have accredited childcare training in order to participate in the scheme. “This has been a welcome step in the professionalisation of childcare,” said Mary Giblin, coordinator of the Galway City and County Childcare Committee.

The decision to expand the position of new general manager of Galway University Hospitals to include reponsibility for Portiuncula and Roscommon hospitals may signal the beginning of a restructuring of hospitals in the area, the trade union IMPACT has claimed.
Padraig Mulligan, the local representative of the country’s biggest public sector union, alleged the HSE West is attempting to downgrade the Ballinasloe and Roscommon hospitals by instructing them to report directly to the general manager of University Hospital Galway rather than to their own managers.
