Judge urges young people to think before they hit out

A district court judge has urged young people “to think before they hit out” as serious injury can be caused if someone falls in the wrong way.

Noting that a single punch can lead to much more serious injuries, Judge Mary Fahy was speaking at Monday’s sitting of Galway District Court after hearing how a man’s nose was broken in a needless assault.

Woman jailed for burglary at occuppied family home

A 33-year-old woman who during a binge of “tablets and alcohol” attempted to commit a burglary at a family home while an elderly lady slept upstairs has been sentenced to nine months in jail with the last four months suspended with conditions.

Government donates €2.25m in capital funding to youth cafes and recreational facilities says Walsh

Fine Gael Galway West TD Brian Walsh has welcomed the provision of €2.25 in capital funding that will enable the conception and development of youth cafes that will facilitate recreational activities for young people both within and outside the Galway region. Applications for the grant have already been submitted by youth groups as well as other local organisations and are being assessed for consideration. Deputy Walsh is extending an invitation to all local associations of this variety to apply for the funding.
