Fianna Fáil TD for Galway East, Albert Dolan, is encouraging owners and custodians of historic buildings, protected structures and thatched properties across the constituency to apply for the Government’s built heritage funding schemes, which have now opened for 2027 applications.

The schemes, announced by Minister of State for Nature, Heritage and Biodiversity Christopher O’Sullivan TD, include the Built Heritage Investment Scheme (BHIS), the Historic Structures Fund (HSF) and the Historic Thatch Buildings (HTB) scheme.

Sinn Féin TD for Galway East, Louis O’Hara, has welcomed confirmation from Uisce Éireann that a contractor has been appointed to deliver the Mountbellew Wastewater Treatment Plant, following the completion of the tender process. Construction is due to begin in Q4 2026, and O’Hara says the project is critical to support the delivery of housing in Mountbellew.

Speaking today, Deputy O’Hara welcomed the appointment of a contractor for the long-awaited Mountbellew Wastewater Treatment Plant and clarity from Uisce Éireann that works will now commence in Q4 2026.

University of Galway calls for public involvement in Galway in developing high blood pressure pathway

The University of Galway is calling on members of the public in Galway to participate in patient discussion groups across Ireland to help develop a better understanding of blood pressure, hypertension and cardiovascular health.

The discussion groups, led by the University of Galway and supported by a multidisciplinary team of cardiologists, patients, researchers and community organisations, including the Irish Heart Foundation, Croí, and the Irish Kidney Association, will explore these issues by engaging directly with people living with high blood pressure and their families.
