Anam Cara— a national voluntary support organisation set up by bereaved parents to provide support and understanding to families who have experienced the death of a precious son or daughter — is facilitating a professional bereavement event in Galway on Wednesday next November 10 at the Calyton Hotel, Ballybritt, Galway.

This event is open to all bereaved parents. Anam Cara doesn’t identify itself by the age of a child, how he/she died or when he/she died. It may have been a cot death or a still birth, suicide, road traffic accident, or serious illness. They identify themselves as parents who have lost a precious son or daughter, trying to find their way through grief and pain.

Gardai found man covered in blood, court hears

A Galway man who breached a protection order and was found covered in blood by gardai following a call from his frightened mother was given a two months sentence at Galway District Court this week.

Patrick McCarthy (21) with an address at 167 Cairel Mhor, Headford Road, Galway, was before Judge Mary Fahy once again on Monday. At a court sitting last month McCarthy pleaded guilty to contravening a protection order and placing his mother in fear by smashing crockery and cuttting himself at his home, contrary to Section 17(1) of the Domestic Violence Act.

The country is insolvent with a deficit of €20bn and national debt of in excess of €300bn. We must find massive savings in current spending leading to a reduction in the deficit and thus a reduction in borrowing. Increasing taxes will have some albeit a limited benefit as they generate diminishing return in line with the increases levied. So we must close the gap elsewhere.
