Where’s your Chrimbo woolly?
Thu, Nov 25, 2010
The Latin Quarter is going to kick off this festive season in style (or maybe not!) for the first Christmas Jumper Day on Friday December 10. A ‘great’ Christmas jumper would be classed as ‘cheesy’ or even ‘tacky’, and would be more akin to the look of a decorated Christmas tree as opposed to regular fashion styles. If you are looking for inspiration just ask yourself ‘what would Cliff Richard wear’ for a Christmas no. 1 video. Get the picture! Christmas Jumper Day is a celebration of the jumpers that we would normally cast aside and send to a box never to be opened that you would store in your attic.
There will be prizes for the best, as in ‘worst’, jumpers on the day and only the most brutal will be in the running. So if it lights up, or plays a jingle, has a large santas head or just the most horrific big patterns you can find, this is the jumper that will be in fashion on Friday December 10 in The Latin Quarter.

Ireland rolled out a key element of its new road safety campaign this week, and, as expected, there was huge interest where the Gardai's new mobile traffic cameras (think emissions), operated by private contractors, were to be posted - so much so the Garda website crashed several times.
The interest is sparked by a guilty population - is there a saint who has never exceeded a designated speed limit? Figures suggest that 90 per cent of all licensed drivers speed at some point in their driving careers (there are no such fines for slow drivers who also cause traffic chaos), while 75 per cent admit a regular speeding offence. And like many life experiences, unless a person has been affected by an accident as a result of speeding, it is human nature to ignore, disbelieve, and say "it won't happen to me".
