And like a bill in a restaurant when you peruse the columns to make sure you haven’t been charged for something you didn’t order, there are a lot of people in this country this morning who will be mnystified why they have to foot the bill for a party to which they were not invited.

The HSE West should consider imposing financial penalties on hospital consultants who delay signing off private health insurance claims, a member of the health authority’s regional health forum said this week.

Cllr Michael Mullins made his comments as a meeting of the forum was told that the HSE West was owed €36 to €37 million by private health insurance companies.

The re-design and construction of Keelderry Wind Farm comprising 16 wind turbines, meteorological mast, and substation, has been refused permission by An Bord Pleanala on the grounds that it could endanger bird species such as the hen harrier and merlin, that it would adversely affect the stability of nearby peatland, and would seriously injure the visual amenities of the area.
