How the times have changed...ten years ago this week, we had Bertie Ahern in this building to bless the place, to give it his seal of approval, to cut the ribbon. Twas on the Wednesday of Race Week and getting Bertie was always handy around race time. You could get him for the opening of an envelope — and according to legend, many people did.

Getting him then was a big deal though — the place had to be swept, literally. His handlers insisted on the protocol that had to be followed. Nobody was to touch him above the elbow and below the belt.

The event saw hundreds of stores across Ireland audited by independent judges and Joyce’s Supermarket in Knocknacarra was awarded the title of Best Non–Affiliated Retailer in Ireland. According to the judging panel, Joyce’s offer the best fresh food offering, with a large selection of the freshest food sourced from many local suppliers. The fresh food team were commended for their passion and knowledge of the food.

Renville Park ‘Remembering Aoibhe’ Run raises €9,000

More than €9,000 has been raised for the Meningitis Trust following the Renville Park 5K ‘Remembering Aoibhe’ Run.

Nearly 700 people took part in the event which was won by Peter O’Sullivan of Craughwell AC. Jane Ann Healy from Athenry AC won the women’s race.

Tuam native nearing completion of 1,330km fundraising walk

Setting out almost three months ago with no accommodation booked, Colm Farrell has walked the 26 counties of Ireland. Armed with just a rucksack, map and iPod on his departure on May 7, Farrell has relied on the generosity of the public to put him up for the night over the course of his 1,330km journey.
