File for DPP after man injured in Eyre Square row

Gardaí are continuing to appeal for witnesses following an incident in Eyre Square at the weekend which left a young man with serious head injuries.

The man was injured when he fell from the top of the ESB substation in the Square during an altercation at around 3.15am on Saturday. He was brought to University College Hospital with serious head injuries.

People in the Clarinbridge area who are interested in starting allotments are invited to the Gortard/Slieveaun allotments this Sunday from 12 noon to 4pm.

At 3pm, Sheila Gallagher will present a multimedia presentation on the Green Sod Land Trust. Ms Gallagher, representing the trust, is one of eight finalists in the Social Entrepreneurs Ireland Awards 2011. There will also be information on poly tunnels, and Sylvia Moss will be answering gardening questions.

Hands across the globe – Mad Hatters and Family Day race photos help street children of Calcutta

Children were smiling on both sides of the world this week after an initiative to raise funds at Family Day at the Galway Races helped street children from Calcutta get the opportunity of care and education.

Volunteers attended the races to collect funds and to take pictures of Mad Hatter entrants to be used in a calendar to be published in October, the sales of which will help fund initiatives to help street children in Calcutta.
