Would you like to meet other women of all ages for tea and a chat, arrange walks, shopping trips, cinema outings, etc? If so, you may be interested in attending the Treasured Ladies group get-togethers.

The organisation meets at 11am on Saturday mornings in the foyer of the House Hotel, Spanish Parade. There are no fees, each person pays for their own tea and coffee.

Businesses and shoppers in Galway are to benefit from Irish Water upgrade works to one of the oldest sewers in the country. The upgrade will address odour and blockage issues that have resulted in significant disruption for businesses and customers on some of Galway’s busiest streets.

The works are part of the Sewer Rehabilitation Project that Irish Water is carrying out in partnership with Galway Co. Co. The project will see one of the oldest sewers in the country receive a €2 million investment to bring it in line with other modern sewer infrastructure across the world.

I’m a news junkie. I would sit in the snow to hear a good yarn. As a kid, I used to place the big valve Pye radio beside my bed, wait until it warmed up and tune into Short Wave stations from across the world.

I’d scroll the dial from Hilversum to Albania to Radio Moscow to Luxembourg to the Voice of America. I would listen through the crackle at these voices coming at me from across the world, with their agendas and their accents. It is a fascination that has stuck with me, and I use every evolving technology to still allow myself this guilty pleasure. even if this means that we sign away a part of ourselves so that we are vulnerable to the latest news and influences.

Council to commission study into Cappagh Park pool and leisure centre says Naughton

Galway City Council is set to commission a feasibility study in respect of a new €15-million swimming pool and leisure centre at Cappagh Park.

The two-storey extension of the existing sports facilities would see the development of a 34-metre swimming pool and state-of-the-art gym in what has been described as a regional aqua and leisure centre.
