Ba ar Dhomhnach Cásca, 2 Aibreán 1972, a thosaigh Raidió na Gaeltachta ag craoladh don chéad uair, lá stairiúil do phobal na Gaeltachta agus na Gaeilge. Bunaíodh an Raidió mar thoradh ar fheachtas Chearta Sibhialta na Gaeltachta agus don chéad uair riamh bhí a stáisiún raidió féin ag pobal na Gaeltachta. Ní bhíodh sé ar an aer ach ar feadh beagáinín os cionn dhá uair an chloig sa lá i dtús aimsire, agus é le cloisteáil sna ceantair Ghaeltachta amháin.
Diaidh ar ndiaidh, tháinig méadú ar na huaireanta craolta agus ar an réimse cláir ar an stáisiún agus anois bíonn Raidió na Gaeltachta ag craoladh 24 uair sa lá, seacht lá na seachtaine, go náisiúnta agus ar fud ar domhan ar chóras satailíte agus ar an idirlíon.

Druid Theatre company has announced the cast members for the DruidMurphy project, an ambitious staging of three classic dramas by the Tuam born playwright.
DruidMurphy will present Famine, Conversations on a Homecoming, and A Whistle in the Dark, and three of his Murphy’s greatest plays, which span the period 1846 to 1970. The plays will be performed around Ireland, Britain, and the USA.

A leading IT consultancy and services provider has announced that a number of jobs in Galway will be created, as well as in Dublin, through the expansion of its offices over the next three years.
Minister for Jobs, Enterprise, and Innovation, Richard Bruton, announced on Tuesday that Sogeti, which has offices located in the Galway Technology Centre in Mervue, is to create 65 new jobs. Recruitment is already in progress and it is understood that there has been high interest shown in the positions which will be a mix of high skilled and graduate roles in the IT sector.

Dirty Harry aka Phil Hogan pointing his pistol in the face of the nation and asking “Do you feel lucky, You’re asking, did I fire five or did I fire six?” Yes, folk’s with just 72 hours until the deadline for the Household Charge, the country and the Government are playing the ultimate game of brinksmanship.
It is a case of waiting to see who is going to blink first and if the million or so households which have not yet registered blink, the flap of those eyelashes will represent a major coup for Minister Hogan and the Government.

With only nine days to the deadline for the payment of the highly controversial household charge, many homes in Galway city and county have still not received an information leaflet.
This, alongside the general feeling of a lack of proper information from the Government regarding what the €100 will be used for, and concerns over the inequalities with payment procedures, has led to Fianna Fáil Galway West TD Éamon Ó Cuív to call for an extension on the Household Charge deadline.
