Learn to heal your body at Galway seminar next week
Thu, Nov 18, 2010
Internationally respected pioneer in healthcare and best-selling author, Michael O’Doherty will speak at a seminar in the Clayton Hotel next week. Entitled Learn to Heal Your Own Body, this seminar, organised by Plexus Bio-Energy, will motivate and empower people to take responsibility for their own health and wellbeing.
O’Doherty has received huge international publicity for his successful treatment of dancer Michael Flatley from a mystery virus that plagued him for three years. “I saw every specialist that there was to see but we couldn’t come up with an answer,” Flatley said. “Then I met Michael O Doherty. I can’t explain how Michael achieved what he did, other than to say he found a way to unblock my energy, to release it again positively within my body. I threw all the drugs I’d been given into the bin. I was a new man.”

Thu, Nov 18, 2010
We may be in the depths of winter but there is still plenty for avid gardeners to do.
December is an ideal time to repot houseplants, which do not have to deal with the Arctic conditions outdoors. Speaking of outdoors, don’t forget your garden is not just for plants. Leave some food out for the birds, whose visits will bring some cheer to the garden during the dark winter months. Aim to provide a mixture of suet, insects, and seeds in order to feed as wide a number of species as possible. Peanuts and mealworms are always a treat.

I am sure many of you are sick to the teeth of the never ending doom and gloom that pervades our every working hour. On a positive note it would appear that we are saving like never before and, while I do realise there are some who are put to the pin of their collar to make ends meet, many are stashing away a few bob for whatever may lie ahead. We all need a boost every so often, so what I am suggesting is that you earmark some of the saving for eating out.

At a recent talk in Athlone, the audience were enthralled with the concept of there being power in surrender regarding conflict resolution.
While conflict occurs in most of our lives, isolated incidences of conflict are part and parcel of the norm with everyday living. It is when the conflict becomes more consistent, more threatening to our wellbeing and happiness, that we must surrender power and change our priorities. Most conflict in our lives originates in the workplace or the home. Then why do we allow conflict to fester and dominate either of the two places where we spend most of our waking hours?

* It is important to exfoliate the skin before you apply your tan. With the change of season there may be a build up of dry/worn out skin left sitting on the outer skin. This can be caused by artificial heat and the change of weather conditions. If the skin is not exfoliated the tan can look clumpy and will not sit smoothly. For those who find exfoliators a little rough add a little moisturiser to it and work a smooth lather into the skin.
* The summer/autumn months allow for a deeper tan so it is important to re assess your colour for the cooler months ahead. If you applied two layers of fake tan during the sunny season perhaps apply one layer for winter. The look of the season is quite natural so less is more when it comes to tan application.

Saturday, June 29, 1963 may have been dull and overcast, but the city of Galway presented a colourful spectacle amid scenes of unprecedented enthusiasm. It was covered in Tricolours and the Stars and Stripes, in bunting and banners, in windowboxes of flowers and newly painted buildings. There was a carnival atmosphere. Some 600 gardaí were up early, lining the streets ahead of the crowds that began to arrive from 7am. There were journalists here from all over the world to cover the event.

Thu, Nov 11, 2010
In the midst of our miserable weather, and dire financial troubles the series of ‘unfortunate’, or at least most unusual, events continued last year. Stringing them all together, as Dr Kieran Hickey does in his interesting book* reminds us that little old Ireland, blessed and loved by the saints, a ‘nation cradled in the arms of St Patrick’ (as I was taught in national school), is, alas, not excluded from strange geophysical events such as extreme weather conditions, including volcanoes and earthquakes, as we may have once believed. Although it was extremely rare for all these events to happen in the same year, I am sorry to say that having spoken to Dr Hickey this week, we’d better batten down the hatches, and prepare for a worse walloping to come. Just over 200 years ago the weather gave Mary Shelley monstrous dreams...but more of that in a moment.
I think I must have been too preoccupied by the our lovely country sinking in the quagmire of incessant rain, floods and financial gloom to notice that on Wednesday February 3 a meteorite, described by many as a strange fireball ‘very bright green with an orange tail’ streaked across the sky over counties Kerry, Cork, Limerick, Galway, the midlands, Donegal, Derry, and Tyrone. It probably fell into a river or bog in County Armagh or Lough Neagh. It has never been found. Dr Hickey saw it as he left his office at NUIG on his way to his car. At first he thought it was a firework, but as it continued its fiery journey northwards, he knew it was a meteorite. How big it was is impossible to say. It could have been a big as a house. But as it entered to earth’s atmosphere, it disintegrated rapidly as it travelled from south to north. In Roman history meteorites have presaged grim tidings for us poor mortals on earth.
