You might think that it is just a little early to talk weddings but there is no time like the present to get ready for being a bride or a guest. In the last three years I have been to nearly 20 weddings, all of which were great fun. But having an outfit ready for each and every one was just a little bit of a challenge.

We are seeing an abundance of pastels from lilac to aqua and lemon, but also a strong emphasis on monochrome and feminine florals. Creole was an instant hit when it opened last summer. A long sunny evening in the terrace with a pile of ribs and a beer was time well misspent, and it has been popular ever since. Now, it's not really a place for vegetarians, there are only a few choices from quite a big menu. This is man food. In fact, when my current husband realised he could not join me at Creole, there was much gnashing of teeth. I brought The Bride instead.

This is probably not the first bottle of wine that is likely to catch your eye. But if you are looking for something really different or unusual this is definitely worth considering. Made in the Santorini region of Greece (yes, Greece) from a whole bunch of grapes - Assyrtiko (90 per cent), Aidani (five per cent) and Athiro (five per cent) - that are by no means familiar, the nose has a mineral charm with a dash of lemon that is very inviting.

The first recorded use of the name Joyce was Joy in the 13th century State papers. Sometime the name was rendered as Joy, Joyces, Jorz, Jorse, or the standard spelling, Joyce. The Joyces of Mervue were a distinguished branch of the family. Marcus Joyce, a rich merchant who bought land in County Mayo in the late 16th century, was probably the founder of this branch. About a century later, the Joyces emerged as a leading merchant family in Galway. Hardiman states that Joyce’s house was at the corner of Abbeygate Street and Market Street and that this family was head of the name. They were eminent wine merchants.
