Sunday lunch at The Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa, Galway
Tue, Jan 17, 2017
Located on the banks of Lough Atalia and overlooking Galway Bay, the Radisson Hotel certainly has an impressive location. It is just a stone's throw from Eyre Square and all the high profile shops, restaurants, and bars it has to offer, and a handy stroll to the bustling pubs and eateries of Quay Street. It enjoys close proximity to the bus and railway stations, all main city bus routes, and there are taxi ranks aplenty on the doorstep. Ireland West Airport is 88.5km from the hotel while Galway Racecourse is just a 10-minute drive (assuming that it is not during the actual races, when your guess is as good as mine). Despite being so close to all of this activity, it stands slightly aloof, tucked away in a quiet cul-de-sac on top of the hill with tranquil views of the water.

Thu, Jan 12, 2017
The truth of the matter is that in the large town of Tuam there is not much to choose from in the way of cafes and restaurants. When asked for recommendations of where to go for the best food and atmosphere, my advice would have been to pack some sandwiches to eat in your car. Pedros was, for a long time, the safest bet for somewhere to take the kids, until Lumberjacks Woodfired Pizza came along and offered another choice. Still very few places for a town of that size.

Thu, Jan 12, 2017
This is the advice for all parents of primary school children who are experiencing difficulties at school with this core subject. Frank Murphy, manager of FCL Galway, explains that one of the keys to success in maths is having a solid fluency in the foundational maths skills that are taught in primary school. Too often, students do not get sufficient practice at the different basic skills and so lack the confidence needed to tackle the more complex ideas that appear in secondary school mathematics and beyond. Often students lack the necessary fluency and feel that they are “no good at maths”.
Maths skills build one on top of the other starting with addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, and division with remainders. It is only when the core skills are sufficiently secure that the student can proceed on to more complex computation in fractions, decimals, percentages, and algebra. Mastering maths is similar to mastering the piano: the growth of each skill is gradual and cumulative, each new improvement being built upon earlier achievements.
