‘The most malignant man in Irish history’

Thu, May 17, 2018

After the enthusiastic reception at New York’s Waldorf Astoria Hotel on June 23 1919, Eamon de Valera was deluged with invitations. For the next 18 months he kept the cause of Ireland before the American public. Criss-crossing the country he addressed public meetings, and state legislatures, receiving on the way a plethora of honorary doctorates, including being adopted as a chief of the Indian Chippewa nation. He quickly won the goodwill of William Randolph Hearst and his chain of newspapers. He was given maximum publicity wherever he appeared, which proved to be an effective answer to British propaganda.

People of the Tribes: Meet Patrick.

Tue, May 15, 2018

Hi, I'm Patrick. I moved to Galway in '95 after living in London for five years, where I went to college and met now my wife. We then decided to go to America in '96, lived there for twenty years running our own businesses and we always longed to come back to Ireland. The ideal place to settle was Galway (my wife is also from Athenry). As I owned restaurants I knew I wanted to be involved with food, so I came across a fire engine in Portlaoise and I said ''Why don't I use this as a catering food truck?''

Viva la Diva!

Tue, May 15, 2018

As I write the tulips are making a wonderful show in the garden and every time I look out the window they lift the spirits. They have to be one of my favourite flowers, both for growing and cutting and I could never have too many. Which is just as well, as in our climate they are the least reliable of spring bulbs – hence the diva reputation. For every dozen you plant, eleven or twelve will perform beautifully the following spring, but in the year after that you would be lucky if two or three bother to show up.

The Garda Barracks, Salthill

Thu, May 10, 2018

The building which houses the Garda station in Salthill was originally called Forster Park and was constructed as a summer house by the Blake Forster family at the end of the 18th century. In 1850, it was bought by the Palmer family who were well known whiskey distillers, flour millers, and makers of porter. Most of their business was based in Nuns’ Island. Their coat of arms can still be seen on the facade of this building. We can presume that Palmer’s Rock (sometimes known as Saunder’s Rock), on the shore in front of this house, was named after a member of the family.

Thu, May 10, 2018

Week III.
The fact that Liam Mellows was imprisoned in New York for endeavouring to buy arms from Germany, was fired from his job as a journalist, and kicked out of the Fenian movement was an embarrasment with many of his admirers. Genuine weight loss with System 10 will help you lose two stone in ten weeks

Thu, May 10, 2018

There are three keys to a genuine weight loss (real fat loss) plan – diet, exercise, and metabolism correction. All three keys interconnect – one will not work without the other. Your metabolism is the most powerful of all the three keys – it is the ‘switch’ that controls everything else. In most people this switch is off.

Metabolism problems such as slow thyroid, type 2 diabetes, sluggish liver, hormone imbalances, PCOS, endometriosis, infertility, and digestive problems such as constipation, IBS, and diverticulitis will limit or stop your weight loss, no matter how much dieting or exercise you do. Work on fixing your metabolism problems for amazing results. Combine this with a reasonable diet and a reasonable amount of exercise and you will get the best, the fastest, and the easiest weight loss ever.
