Bus Éireann announces special direct services for Galway Garth fans

Bus Éireann, Ireland’s national bus company, is encouraging country music fans in Galway to leave their cars at home when travelling to the Garth Brooks concerts in Dublin this week, by taking one of their special direct services from Galway Bus Station to Busáras in Dublin instead.

Bus Éireann is running the special services on each day where a concert is scheduled, September 9/10/11/16/17. Services from Galway (direct to Dublin) will depart at 12.00pm from Galway Bus Station and arrive at Busáras in Dublin at 15.15pm. Return services will depart Busáras at 23.55pm and arrive at Galway Bus Station at 3.10am. Tickets are just €35 euro return and can be booked online at expressway.ie

Yeats College class jubilant after results

The Yeats College class of 2022 were jubilant as they received their long-awaited Leaving Certificate results on Friday. Results achieved by students in this year’s examinations were truly phenomenal, with over 62% of students achieving 500 points or higher this year. Indeed 45% of its students achieved over 550 points. A magnificent 19% of students scored over 600 points, which is an amazing achievement.

Hurling — game of legend and of legends

Hurling is one of the oldest field games in the world. Some stories portray it as a form of military training, proficiency on the field equated with skill in battle. Legend has it that the first battle of Moytura fought about 2000 B.C. between two rival tribes, was preceded by a fierce hurling match between two teams of 27 a-side drawn from opposing forces. The casualties were buried under a huge stone cairn – a megalithic tomb. The field where the game took place is still called The Field of the Hurlers. Ancient games were also played at Tara.
