The team behind The Skeff and The Skeffington Arms Hotel wish their customers and the people of Galway a very merry Christmas and a happy New Year. They are looking forward to celebrating 2020 and welcoming in a new decade. They hope the New Year brings happiness, success, adventure, and joy to everyone, and look forward to Galway 2020.
The team would like to extend a massive thank you to everyone who visited them throughout 2019; whether calling in for a pint and bite to eat, hosting a party, or attending a fundraising event in aid of a local charity, they appreciate your custom and look forward to celebrating the festive season with you. The Skeff will close from 6pm on Christmas Eve and reopen on St Stephen’s Day at 4pm, with food served from 5pm.

The Galway Carol Singers were formed in the late 1930s by members of the Junior Conference of the St Vincent de Paul Society. Benny Brennan from West House got the idea originally, and then a committee was formed from various conferences in town. It included Robert Pierce, Joe Lardner, Paddy Donoghue, Mattie Fahy, John Fahy, Pádraic Spelman, and Peter Griffin. The idea was for the singers to raise much needed funds for the society.

Almost 9,000 children are waiting for healthcare in the CHO2 area which covers counties Galway, Mayo and Roscommon, according to Fianna Fáil TD for Roscommon/Galway Eugene Murphy.
Fianna Fáil’s health spokesperson Deputy Stephen Donnelly recently secured information from the HSE which shows that nationally 117,000 children were waiting for hospital treatment.
