Two Farmhouse Cheesemakers from Co. Galway were honoured last week at the 2024 Irish Cheese Awards during a prestigious ceremony hosted by CÁIS, the Association of Irish Farmhouse Cheesemakers, at Kilshane House in Co. Tipperary on Wednesday April 24th. Between them, Killeen Farmhouse Cheese from Portumna and Kylemore Farmhouse Cheese from Loughrea took home a total of four awards.

Mental health charity highlights five signs of burnout

In NLN's Galway centre, courses are available for people aged 18 to 65 who have autism, mental health issues, social anxiety, disabilities or learning difficulties, or for people who had a setback and need support to get their life back on track.

The National Learning Network centre in Galway is now enrolling for a home-based computer course, which is a flexible programme combining both centre-based and home-based learning. The course supports learners to improve their computer skills with the aim of returning to work or progressing to further training and education. Participants will have the opportunity to achieve a QQI Level 5 and ECDL certification.

The Ó Máille family originally came from Portacarron near Oughterard which accounted for their Irish speaking background. Their landlord, Mrs Annie Nolan evicted them from their holding and they spent a number of years in temporary accommodation. When Mrs Nolan’s son wanted to run in an election, Isaac Butt, the Irish Parliamentary Party leader stipulated that his nomination would not be ratified until such time as his mother reinstated her evicted tenants and so the Ó Máille family were awarded a fine farm holding in Brackloon in the parish of Corofin, east of the Corrib.
