One of Galway’s busiest deli counters is making life that little bit easier for customers with the launching of their new app. The McCambridge’s App allows customers to pre-order and pay for their soup and or sandwiches and then simply pop in store to collect. It also offers an extensive range of accompaniments such as drinks and fruit etc.

Food Festival and Slow Food Galway collaborate on schools ‘Grandmother’s Day’ competition

The sixth annual Galway Food Festival will take place over the Easter Bank Holiday Weekend from the 13–17 April 2017. This year’s festival theme will celebrate the relationship between ‘Food and the Community’ through an innovative food programme of over 100 events, focusing on Galway’s 21st Century cultural identity through food. One such event will see the Festival collaborate with Slow Food Galway to present the ‘Grandmother’s Day Competition’, which takes place on Good Friday during the Festival.

In the years following the establishment of the Defence Forces, various classes of Army Reserves were experimented with between 1927 and 1939. In May 1927, a Class A Reserve was formed consisting of NCOs and men transferred to the Reserve. In January 1928, a Class B Reserve was set up with the object of building up the infantry arm of the Defence Forces. One joined voluntarily, but in doing so, committed to three months initial training and one month’s annual training thereafter. This group had practically ceased to exist by 1934.

Cúrsa Gramco is a three week Irish language course run by Séamas Ó Máirtín and his dedicated teachers in St Mary’s College in Galway city. Mr Ó Máirtín decided to set up Cúrsa Gramco so as to make the learning of Irish an enjoyable and positive experience. The course incorporates an understanding of the nuts and bolts of the language so that students become independent learners. Study skills are central to the course so that students learn how to self-assess.

The Galway Roscommon Training Education Board (GRETB) Training Centre and Castle Ceilings Ltd, in partnership with the CIF, are getting people back to work via a City & Guilds Level 2 diploma in interior systems – construction. The official launch of this programme will take place tomorrow, Friday March 10, at 1.30pm in the Castle Ceilings Training Academy in Ballybrit. It will be launched by Tom Parlon of the CIF and many of construction's biggest companies will be in attendance on the day.
