The correct name for this promontory is Blake’s Hill which comprises approximately 30 acres. Gentian Hill was a much smaller area further north, but nowadays the whole area is referred to as Gentian Hill. An extract from O’Donovan’s Letters described it as follows: “Here in Blake’s Hill over the sea, whither the young men of Galway were wont to come on horseback on the third day of their May game, and there dine between the hill and the castle of Barna. Sir Moragh O’Flaherty of Aughamore defeated an army out of Clanricard on the 22nd of June 1564 on the strand at Traybane, Cnoc an Blacaigh.”

‘It was a scandal the way people waited in vain to see President Reagan and all they saw was a hand at the window,” lamented the late Cllr John F King at the first city council meeting following the visit of President and Mrs Reagan to Galway on June 2 1984.
There was a chorus of agreement around the table. Cllr Bridie O’Flaherty said that she had two daughters living in America. They had phoned her to say how ashamed they were to see the American flag burned in the streets of Dublin. “It was very unjust, very unfair, and very wrong to burn that flag,” she added irately.

What happens when we don’t take responsibility for our lives? What are the consequences of this? This is my take on it; I believe that we come onto this earth to learn lessons, and our lessons are the reverse of what we experience in life. Now this may sound confusing but its not. It goes as follows; if in this lifetime, I have chosen (unconsciously) to, or need to learn about abundance, I will then, in this lifetime choose to be born into a family that believe in lack. If the family we are born into already believe in or experience abundance the lessons of having abundance are, already learned.

I always wanted to follow my heart in life. It was just one of those things. I studied biochemistry and then psychology, but something was missing. I loved what I did, but I wasn't in love with it. I suppose, one day I just said to myself, if you are going to really find your thing, you better do it now. Time is moving along. I just did it. I don't know why, but I switched on the laptop and wrote a children's book.

"I graduated from NUIG in the middle of the recession in 2011 and was having no luck with jobs. I developed an anxiety disorder and just lost all confidence in myself, which has been a pretty common theme for the young Irish over the last couple of years, especially for guys. I was feeling lost and decided the only way I could change the route my life was taking, was to start running full sprint at every fear I had, to regain that confidence. After completing my Master's in UL, I was offered a job in Malaysia. The idea of moving to a country on the other side of the world, leaving the safety net of home and family behind was terrifying, so I ran at it. It was the best decision I ever made. I was given opportunities I would never have been afforded in Ireland. I was promoted to Research & Development Team Leader in my company within a year. I was nominated, quite embarrassingly, as CLEO's Most Eligible Bachelor in Malaysia, which I only agreed to because it scared me. Life was fun over there and I got comfortable, but in late 2015 one of my best friends died in a car crash in Kuala Lumpur and it threw me of-course again. The anxiety and depression came back in force and it made me question whether my job in the Oil & Gas industry was really what I wanted to do for the rest of my life, so I quit and began developing my own business and moved back to Ireland. I created a YouTube channel called “Real Engineering", where I teach the science and history behind engineering. I somehow managed to grow the channel into a legitimate business in just 6 months and now have 450,000 subscribers and average about 2 million views per month.”
