An Taibhdhearc wins a prestigious theatre award

AN TAIBHDHEARC’S production of Tom Murphy’s An Tíoránach Drogallach has won The BBC Northern Ireland Irish Language Drama Award.

The announcement was made in Belfast at the 2013 Stewart Parker Awards. The Irish language award went to Macdara Ó Fatharta who translated the play from Murphy’s original script, The Last Days of a Reluctant Tyrant. The play was then staged in An Taibhdhearc and directed by Anne McCabe, artistic director of the theatre.

SEAN HUGHES, one of Ireland’s most brilliant comedians, will perform his new show Penguins, as part of the Cúirt literature festival.

Sean Hughes will perform Penguins in the Druid Theatre, Druid Lane, on Friday April 11 at 8pm. In it, Sean will ask, ‘Why does society tell us how to behave and react?’ and ‘What does it have to do with penguins?’ In between he will explore his Dublin upbringing, the awkwardness of teenage life, his family, his school days, friendship, and life today.
