The Ballad of Reading Gaol

OSCAR WILDE’S greatest and epic poem, The Ballad of Reading Gaol, will be performed at the Bank of Ireland Theatre at NUI Galway, on Thursday February 13 at 8pm.
The event, which is part of the university’s Múscailt Arts Festival, will see the Scottish born storyteller and writer Rab Swannock Fulton recite/perform the poem’s 600 lines, accompanied by subtle props and appearances by co-performer Sandra Coffey.

WHO IS afraid of Liam O’Flaherty? The Irish government in the 1920s for one, banning several of the Aran Islander’s novels during this period.
One of O’Flaherty’s most controversial novels was Mr Gilhooley (1926) set in an urban, often impoverished, and violent Dublin. However the work was admired by the artist Harry Clarke, who selected O’Flaherty as one of 15 Irish writers, who would make up the eight panelled Geneva Window, commissioned by the Irish State.

Following a successful refurbishment plan over the past few months, Q-Park officially relaunched its Eyre Square parking facility this week with a celebratory event to mark the occasion, to thank its customers for their loyalty and patience, and in particular to show that quality, secure, parking in the centre of the city is affordable.
The official showcasing of the facility included a maximum charge offer on the day, where customers could leave their car for as long as they wanted for just €5. All who parked on the day and signed their name and number on their exit tickets were also entered into a draw where one lucky person could win a prize of €1,000, with 10 runners up prizes of a rugby ball signed by the Connacht rugby squad also up for grabs.
