GALWAY PUNK/hardcore band Ghundi will launch their second EP Bang Bang Heavy Heavy with a show in An Pucán, Forster Street, on Saturday at 8.30pm.

The band are Colin Finnerty (vocals), Kieran Griffin (bass), Evan O’Connor (guitar), and Darren McGough (drums).

Alabama 3 return

Alabama 3 (pictured) are coming to Ireland to play three shows ahead of their headline show at Electric Picnic in September. They play the Loughrea Hotel and Spa for an acoustic show on Thursday July 9. Tickets are €20 from Zhivago records, Shop Street, Loughrea Hotel, and The Turtle Tavern, Loughrea.

THE THREE Tenors - Le Voci’ - le voci being Italian for ‘the voices’ - return to Co Galway to perform at the Station House Theatre, Clifden, on Saturday July 11 at 9pm.

The tenors - John Scott, David Martin, and Declan Kelly - have sung to sell-out crowds all over Ireland and abroad. The tenors have also released the album Il Mondo.

THE EYE Cinema in Wellpark is celebrating the release of Ice Age 3: Dawn of the Dinosaurs with family themed fun during the opening weekend.

There will be face painting, mask making, balloon giveaways, and a guest dinosaur appearance this Saturday and Sunday. Ice Age 3 will be screened in 3D and also in the traditional 2D format.

SIMON JEFFES was resting on a beach in the south of France in 1972, recovering from food poisoning, when he had a strange hallucination of a world devoid of joy or colour, except for a noisy, happy, place called The Penguin Café which had its own house band.

Jeffes, a composer and classically trained musician, was inspired to form a group that would be the house band to his imaginary café and thus the strange, wonderful, world of The Penguin Café Orchestra was born. From 1976 until Jeffes’ passing in 1997, the band released eight albums of beautifully eccentric music which mixed English classical, pop, prog, world, and avant garde.
