AFTER TWO barely noticed albums in the mid-noughties, Rhode Island folk-rock/indie-folk trio The Low Anthem struck creative gold with 2009’s Oh My God, Charlie Darwin.To hold their own and not be outdone by the considerable shadow cast by Fleet Foxes’ magical debut was some achievement, as was the band’s ability to balance the rabble rousing, beer’n’brawling side of folk, with the genre’s sensitive, introspective, side, showing in the process, an emphatic understanding and love for the heritage of this Hiberno-British-American strain of music.

BEARDYMAN – DJ, producer, and entertainer – brings his Eat Sleep Shave Repeat Irish Tour to Strange Brew at the Róisín Dubh tonight.
Beardyman, who has been called the “king of sound, ruler of beats,” by BBC1 Breakfast, and “like Bobby McFerrin on Speed” by the Evening Standard, is promising audiences a rip roaring, beat filled and lavishly improvised gigs.

Organised by Comhaltas Mhaigh Cuilinn, the workshops feature masterclasses in fiddle with Tara Breen and David Doocey; banjo with Eoin O’Sullivan; accordion with Tommy Doherty and Daithí Gormley; concertina with Caitlin NicGabhann; and sean nós singing with Máire Ní Dhroighneán.

TAE LANE have been described as The Pogues arguing with Warren Zevon, and Galway will see why when they play The Cellar this Saturday.
Tae Lane are a six-piece band of brothers who play original songs with the odd classic thrown in. They will perform songs from their forthcoming EP Not Today, while the video for the song ‘Low Down Pleasures’ can be seen on YouTube. The band has also played the Electric Picnic.
