ULSTER AND Munster bands will be taking to the stage of The Cellar Bar, Eglinton Street, for Citóg tomorrow night.

The members of Derry’s The Wonder Villains are only 17 but they have already supported Scouting For Girls and New Young Pony Club. Their sound mixes energetic and exuberant vocals with playful synths and indie guitars.

Galway Arts Centre Poetry Slam

THE GALWAY Arts Centre’s November Poetry Slam takes place this Tuesday at 7pm in the Dominick Street venue.

To participate you need one poem/piece that will take three minutes to perform. Judges will select their favourite. The winner will be a guest reader at the next slam and qualify for the Cúirt Grand Slam in April. Their poem will also be published on the Galway Arts Centre website.

ONE OF Ireland’s biggest bands, The Coronas, will be in Galway on Wednesday November 16 to do an in-store appearance at HMV Galway.

The band will be in the store at 5pm where they will meet fans, sign copies of their new album Closer To You, and perform live. Closer To You was recorded in LA with producer Tony Hoffer who has also worked with The Kooks, Belle and Sebastian, and Beck.

As she recounts in the book’s opening chapter, it was in 1991 that Harriet left her job as a musical archivist in Switzerland and landed at Shannon airport “with two suitcases and ridiculously little money”, little suspecting where her career path would next take her.
