THE BUENA Vista Social Club will be screened in the Eye Cinema on Monday at 7pm for the Access Music Project’s fund-raising Night at the Movies event.
The Buena Vista Social Club charts a group of legendary Cuban musicians, whose talents had been virtually forgotten by a world happy to impose punishing sanctions on Castro’s Cuba.

LONG BEFORE David O’Doherty ever took to the stage he was a devoted student of comedy arts. He would regularly go to see his brother Mark perform at The Comedy Cellar in Dublin and watched the international explosion of Irish comedy in the late 1990s.

THEATRE, MUSIC, art installation, and storytelling will combine in a new production of Mark O’Halloran’s The Head of Red O’Brien, which will be staged in Galway next month.
Red O’Brien is recovering in hospital from a near-fatal knife attack by his wife. The resulting injuries temporarily left him without any cognitive processing skills. Slowly, however, they are returning. As he makes his recovery he evaluates and analyse his life, desires, regrets, and hopes, through stories about his wife, Sean Connery, James Joyce, and the Cold War.

SEODA, GALWAY Early Music’s ensemble, are promising Galway children a ‘Ye olde Merry time’, with a concert featuring Renaissance dances, historical instruments, and 15th and 16th century costumes.
The concert takes place on Sunday February 21 in the St Patrick’s Band Hall immediately next to the train station.

TALES FROM A Lost Uncle is a new theatre production from Macnas which is due to be staged in Galway in April, but a brief performance from the play took place in Macnas’ Fisheries Field workshop last week.
The play centres on a poet called Orfeo, who comes into an inheritance from a mysterious uncle. As part of that inheritance he receives a magical musical instrument which has a trance like effect on all who hear it.
