LEADING BERLIN DJ Efdemin will play LowerState at Deeper in The Cellar Bar Eglinton Street, this Friday at 10.30pm.

Efdemin is regarded as one of the world’s best underground DJs. He was voted Resident Advisors’ top producer of 2007 and released his self-titled album two years ago on Dial to rave reviews and critical acclaim. His DJing style takes listeners from deep house to tribal techno. Support is from LowerState’s Ruari. Admission is €14.

Roscommon Racecourse will host two evening race meetings in August. On Tuesday August 4 the first race is at 5.50pm. This is a mixed card with both flat and national hunt racing and features a very high class flat handicap for fillies only. This race is over 1.5 miles and will have runners from all the top yards in the country.

Also on the card is the Railway Bar three-year-old Maiden Hurdle. This is the first hurdle race of the 2009 racing season for three-year-olds in Ireland and in the past has thrown up some really top performers.

SPANISH HARLEM, also known as El Barrio, is a neighbourhood in the northeastern part of the borough of Manhattan and home to one of the largest predominantly Latino communities in New York City.

The area has a vibrant tradition of Latin music, and in 2000 Aaron Levinson and salsa giant Oscar Hernandez joined forces with the idea of preserving the history of the classic Latin dance orchestras and writing and arranging new music for contemporary audiences. OVER THE past two decades Londoner Mark Thomas has been a comedian, television presenter, writer, social-commentator, political activist, and self-confessed pain in the arse. He currently holds the Guinness World Record for most political demonstrations in 24 hours.

In the early 1980s Thomas was organising benefit shows to raise funds for the striking miners and was a very vocal opponent of Thatcherism. When he became the resident compere at The Comedy Store in London in 1986 he met and worked with a galaxy of left-leaning alternative comedians such as Rik Mayall, Alexei Sayle, Ben Elton, and Adrian Edmondson.
