Second collection of Tom Duddy’s poems

THE YEARS, a collection of poetry by the late philosopher and academic Tom Duddy, is to be launched in Galway city this month.

Mr Duddy was a lecturer at NUI Galway, working in the Department of Philosophy from 1979 until he became ill in 2011. He was also a keen poet. His debut collection, The Hiding Place was published by Arlen House in 2011, and was shortlisted for the Aldeburgh First Collection Prize and the Seamus Heaney Centre Prize for Poetry. Mr Duddy died in June 2012, while compiling his second book of poems.

Choral concerts for Simon

GALWAY SIMON Community has been selected as the chosen charity for two concerts to take place during St Patrick’s Weekend.

The concerts will take place in St Nicholas’ Collegiate Church. The first takes place on Saturday at 8pm with the Laramie and Kelly Walsh Choirs from Wyoming. The choirs are made up of 90 singers from the western US and perform popular classics, spirituals, pop, and Irish and American folk songs. The choirs will also be accompanied by a bluegrass band.
