AS I write, shrill shrieks and grunts James Brown would be envious of are busting out of the speakers from my 45rpm copy of ‘I’m A Man’. Indeed the artist’s old nickname ‘Little JB’ comes from his physical and vocal resemblance to Brown. However this is unmistakably Lee Fields, a very different talent.

THE ENERGETIC sound of gypsy jazz will light up Monroe’s Backstage Bar tonight from 10pm when Gypsi Swing take to the stage.
This Irish quintet play the gypsy jazz of the 1920s and 30s made famous by virtuoso guitarist Django Reinhardt and violinist Stephane Grappelli. They also play swing covers of modern pop hits.

THERE IS, in picking up a debut collection of short stories, especially when the author is unknown to you, a sense of a new beginning, a sort of tingling, not to say exciting anticipation of discovery.
It is also mixed with the fear of disappointment that this new author may have been published too early and that the stories will fail to touch any chord.
