Macka B to spread the Rastafarian message to Galway

MACKA B, one of Britain’s most influential dancehall toasters, who has pushed the music back toward a Rastafarian political consciousness, plays Galway tomorrow night.

Rootical presents a live show featuring Macka B and The Roots Ragga Band, with support from Rootical and guest singers, in The Warwick Hotel, Salthill, tomorrow at 10pm.

VINNIE KILDUFF, the Grammy award winning musician who has recorded with U2, and artist Dara McGee are joining forces this month for a special show of music, storytelling, food, and art.

An Rón Dall - The Blind Seal takes place at The Twelve hotel, Bearna, on Monday December 28 at 8.30pm. It is inspired by the folk story recorded by William Hamilton Maxwell in 1832, about the fate of a domesticated seal at the home of a local fisherman in Renvyle, Connemara.

THIS SUNDAY at 6pm in Kelly’s Bar, Bridge Street, a host of renowned Galway musicians, including the great folk singer-songwriter Sean Tyrrell, are getting together to play a fundraising concert.

Gerry Carthy, a well known musician in Galway in the late 1970s and 1980s has a seriously handicapped boy called Mikey whose special bus was recently damaged beyond repair in a road accident. Mikey luckily was not in the bus at the time, but he needs a new bus so a group of his Galway musical friends are coming together for this fundraiser.

Over The Rainbow at the Town Hall

OVER THE Rainbow, the new dance show based on The Wizard Of Oz, will be performed by the Corrib Dance Academy in the Town Hall Theatre next week.

This production, aimed at all the family, is based on the original story by Frank Baum and influenced by both the original Judy Garland film (1939) and The Wiz (1978) with Michael Jackson. All of the young people and children featured are CDA dance students, many have been training with the academy for more than 12 years.
