THE VARIETY show Glas Vegas is back for a fourth series, and it’s even bigger, louder, and a little bit weirder than before.

For one lucky talented performer or group, this autumn will bring an adventure and opportunity most entertainers only dream of. Over 13 episodes, hundreds of acts will take to the stage, hoping to become the next big thing in the world of showbiz. Singers, musicians, sean nós dancers, acrobats, comedians, and magicians to mention just some of the acts on the show, will be giving the performance of their lives to impress judges.

Loughrea music showcase

AN EVENING of Loughrea's best songwriting talent will take place in the Loughrea Hotel and Spa on Sunday at 7pm. The event is run by the Emerging Network of Independent Galway Musicians and Artists (ENIGMA). The aim of the evening is to showcase local talent with the objective of getting each performer into the Irish charts. The free event will feature Ultan Conlon, Neev Kennedy, Wokajo, Una MacLochlainn, and James Finnegan. They will each be releasing a single on the evening. Audience members will be asked to download a song on their phones from each performer so have some credit in your phones, all proceeds will be donated to charity.

Renowned pastel artist to give workshop

WELL KNOWN British pastel artist Ann Wilkinson is to give a five day workshop in the Galway Arts Centre from September 3 to 7. This is a unique opportunity for aspiring and working artists to learn from an artist and teacher of such a high calibre. Wilkinson is primarily a pastel artist who works on an acrylic base, her favourite subjects being figure composition and still life. More recently, she has worked on seascapes in oils, which she has shown at the Royal Society of Marine Artists Exhibition in Britain.

The workshop will run from 10.30am until 5pm each day, and will cost €195 per person – places are limited. Participants can work in pastel or oils.

San Francisco Bay area artists at 126

MYTHOLOGIES, THE work of seven emerging contemporary San Francisco Bay area artists will be on display at 126, the artist-run gallery on Queen Street until September 19.

126 presents the San Francisco Bay area artists as part of an exchange exhibition with Blankspace Gallery in Oakland, California. Each exhibiting artist created works that deal with personal, historical and modern mythologies, some which are quintessentially American, others more universal. Works include video, installation, sculpture, works on paper, painting, and ceramics. The artists featured are: Gina Tuzzi, Samara Halperin, Brian Caraway, Lena Reynoso, Crystal Morey, Sam Lopes, and Renée Gertler.
