Canney welcomes new broadband connection points for the county

Twenty new broadband connection points are to be made available across County Galway, during the roll out of the National Broadband Plan, and all are expected to be on stream by the end of 2020.

The connections points in east Galway are at Cahergal National School, Cortoon Community Centre and Brownsgrove National School, Tuam; Ballinakill National School and Leitrim Community Centre, Kylebrack; St Colman’s National School, Tierneevin, Gort; St Mary’s National School, Kippanagh, Clonberne; The Old Secondary School, Glenamaddy; Kilcroan National School, Williamstown; Briarhill National School, Ballintemple; and Tiernascragh National School, Ballycrissane, Ballinasloe.

Imagine high speed broadband network expands in Galway

High Speed Broadband Infrastructure builder Imagine today announced that its network now covers over 63,500 premises in the county and that it is investing €300m to be first to provide high speed broadband to over one million premises nationally.

Homes and businesses in rural areas across the county, from Dunmore to Loughrea and from Oughterard to Ballinasloe can now join the thousands who are now connecting.

Museum offers rare opportunity to view O’Davoren manuscript

Galway City Museum currently have on loan, for a short time only, one of the most important medieval Irish legal manuscripts ever written called The Book of O’Davoren. It was written in the Irish-language by scribes between 1564 and 1570 for the Co. Clare lawyer Donal O’Davoren, much of it at the MacEgan law school, near Tuam, Co. Galway.

Shannon Group on target to deliver €18m aircraft hangar

Shannon Group plc is on target to complete a new €18 million, 92,000 sq ft specialist aircraft painting hangar at Shannon Airport, adjacent to Shannon Free Zone and capable of accommodating some of the world’s largest aircraft.

Over 150 jobs have been created during the 14 month construction phase and the hangar is on target to be completed by the end of 2019. The hangar is located on the Shannon Airport campus which is home to the longest runway in Ireland.
