A BOLLYWOOD céilí and world music will be heard from five Irish youth orchestras at the 11th annual Coole Music Orchestra Festival which comes to Gort, south Galway, next weekend.
The festival takes place on Saturday March 10 and will feature a concert from Australian-Irish Indian sarode player Matthew Noone; dancers from the Galway Indian Cultural Community; Gort based didgeridoo player Itamar Meir, Irish dancers from the Marie Gavin School; and culminates that evening with the Bollywood Céilí’ - mixing traditional Indian and Irish music - performed by five orchestras, involving 180 musicians of all ages, from Galway, Mayo, and Limerick. The 'Bollywood Céilí' has been composed by festival founder and artistic director of the Coole Music School, Katharina Baker.
The festival will also host 12 workshops, including Sing! a world music singing workshop with composer Fiona Linnane; and Afro-Cuban Drumming with percussionist Alan Preims. Classes are open to all and should be booked in advance.
