JACK Quartet - 'superheroes of the new music world' to play Galway

THEY ARE the "superheroes of the new music world," say the Boston Globe; while the Washington Post call them "the go-to quartet for contemporary music, tying impeccable musicianship to intellectual ferocity and a take-no-prisoners sense of commitment."

They are The JACK Quartet, who play The PorterShed, behind the Hotel Meyrick, Eyre Square, on Friday November 4 at 6pm. Featuring violinists Christopher Otto and Austin Wulliman, violist John Pickford Richards, and cellist Kevin McFarland, JACK focuses on the commissioning, performance, and spreading of new string quartet music.

The programme will feature works by three award winning American contemporary composers - Caroline Shaw's Ritornello 2.sq.2.j; John Zorn: Remedy of Fortune; and Julia Wolfe's Early That Summer - along with String Quartet No 2, a work composed for JACK by the late Belfast based composer, Peter Rosser.

The concert is presented in association with Moving On Music. Ticktes are €12/8 and can be booked via www.musicforgalway.ie or 091 - 705962 and in person at Opus II, High Street.
