International interest in Colleran’s auction next week

Described by many as one of Galway's hidden gems Killeen House, Bushypark, on the shores of the Corrib, will be auctioned next Thursday by Don Colleran. Built by three English solicitors in 1837, it was purchased by the Palmer family from the Glenlo Abbey estate as a dower house in 1904. In 1949 Mary Simonds, who was returning from India, purchased the house and was responsible for a lot of the landscaping in the beautiful gardens. She lived there until 1963 when an American merchant banker, Frank Manheim, bought it. It was the Manheim family that carried out considerable renovations to the property to the highest standards which are still very evident today as the property is in wonderful condition throughout.

The 6,000 square feet of living accommodation over two floors includes seven bedrooms, two drawing rooms, a dining room, kitchen, utility, and washroom. Included on the 17 acres of river fronting land there are paddocks and stables. Don Colleran believes that nothing compared to Killeen House has been offered for sale by public auction in Galway before. "Its charm, superb condition, seclusion, yet accessibility to the city centre sets it apart," he said. "For a young family it would be a magical home." Its size and convenience to the city centre renders it a potential perfect property and location for business opportunities such as a health and retreat centre, conference facilities, or boutique hotel. The AMV is €1.8 million. Viewing is by appointment only.

Also included in Colleran's May auction is No 32 Maunsells Park, a bright, spacious, four bedroom semi just off Taylor's Hill. Fronting on to a large secure green area, this property would make a perfect home for any young family as it is within walking distance of some of Galway's finest primary and secondary schools, as well as all necessary amenities. Maintained in excellent condition throughout, this property is ready for immediate occupancy. The abundance of accommodation includes a large, bright, welcoming, entrance hall with solid maple floor that continues into the bright sitting room/dining room, with sliding patio doors to the large west facing sunroom that is not overlooked. The modern kitchen with its granite worktops offers a generous range of built-in and overhead cupboard space with separate utility area. There is also a study/playroom off the hall in addition to a downstairs toilet and wash hand basin. On the first floor there are four spacious bedrooms, all with built-in wardrobes, and master bedroom en suite. The bathroom is fitted with a new suite and is fully tiled. There is a garage for additional storage which would be suitable for conversation. If you are looking for a family home in one of Galway's most sought after locations within walking distance of all amenities then No 32 Maunsells Park is a must-see house. Open viewings take place on Saturday from 1pm to 2pm, and the advised minimum value is €290,000.

The auction will commence at 3pm on Thursday May 26. For more information contact Colleran auctioneers at 091 562293.
