As we gear up for the Galway Races, here are some style ideas to help you get race ready.
There is an array of amazing styles from which to choose. Whatever you decide to wear, go for an outfit that is ‘you’, that you are comfortable and confident in.
The flared skirt is a stand out piece and comes in various shades and designs from bright pinks and blues to gorgeous florals. When styling it, go for a top in a more subtle colour, tucked inside the skirt, to let the skirt stand out. A coordinated headpiece will finish off the look elegantly. A pair of comfortable high heels is a must for this look and will elongate the silhouette.
I love trousers suits, in particular in off white — combine with stylish metallic accessories and a touch of black. If you are going for this look, make sure the suit fits to perfection. Jumpsuits and separates are equally chic but with an edgy feel. For jumpsuits, a tailored cropped jacket, paired with elegant heels, will make this look smarter and racing appropriate.
Neutral hues, combined with lace, delicate embroidery, or luxurious textures of silk and brocade, are timeless and chic. Go for all neutral with different shades of the same colour, or combine it with a contrasting colour.
Floral are always chic and feminine for the races. Bring out the colour of the floral with accessories in similar colours or contrasting colours.
Make sure to choose a flattering colour that suits you best. You do not have to match everything, but well coordinated colours will look well put together. We are seeing endless colour combinations. You can try cream and cerise pink; yellow and taupe; blue and beige; pink, grey and white; and red or pink and monochrome. If you decide to combine two bright colours, such as yellow and blue, try to keep one of the two hues to a minimum, and incorporate a neutral colour such as off white, to balance the look.
When it comes to hats or headpieces, you should go for a style that suits your face shape and complements the outfit. A basic rule is: Busy hat, simple outfit; simple headpiece, busy outfit.
