Active Over 50s Show returns to Galway

A free event, specifically aimed at the interests and concerns of seniors, is shortly returning to Galway. Called The Active Over 50s Show, it is described by the organisers as “the ultimate lifestyle event for the west’s seniors”.

This entertaining, informative, and educational event will take place at The Radisson Blu Hotel on Saturday August 29 and Sunday August 30. There will be some 70 exhibitors at the event, ranging from Bon Secours Clinic and the Revenue Commissioners to Specsavers and Select Hotels. There will also be a programme of presentations on health topics as well as free health checks.

Other features at the show include gardening clinics hosted by Gerry Daly, wine tasting, antique valuations, bridge lessons, and  dancing sessions for experienced dancers and beginners. According to the organisers, the event offers the active over 50s a one-stop shop to get information on their physical and financial health, as well as enjoy many of their interests and hobbies, not to mention an excellent opportunity to meet up with their peers from all over the region and beyond.

The event will offer a combination of displays, demonstrations, and presentations featuring interests and subjects highly relevant to seniors such as health, finance, travel, statutory and legal rights, fashions and make-overs, hobbies, coin, stamp and note valuations, and golf lessons.

Health and wellbeing

Health and well being will be a key element of the event, based on the well-proven premise that exercise, sensible diet, and regular, routine, monitoring slows down the ageing process. A health presentation schedule will be running throughout the two days as well as a number of free health checks and screenings for blood sugar, blood pressure, vision, and hearing. A full line up will be posted on the show website www.seniortimes.ie Dr Dilis Clare will also be speaking on the health benefits of herbs that grow naturally in your garden.

Travel

Because most seniors have the time and the resources to take a number of breaks throughout the year, the event will feature hotels and hotel groups from all over Ireland, offering special golden years breaks, as well as information on overseas holidays specially designed for seniors.
